Conversations with Critters Furever Friday October 24, 2025
Walk with the animals. Talk with the animals. And keeping on after reaching our milestones with a conversation on the sounds of the Siamangs...
Today Critters, we have shared two incredible mileposts with you over the past week. First, thank you for celebrating Jojo’s First Anniversary Senior Adoption with us. Go go Jojo! We also published Chapter 20, the conclusion, of The Case of the Jumping Gene! The End. Hooray Hooray!
So! In summary and to date, that’s one doggo anniversary and the completion of the third book in the J Kitten, Sleuth & Purveyor of Bright Shiny Objects Detective Agency Series. But. At Conversations with Critters, we like to keep it moving. Therefore!
Please, welcome our Core Community Critters Jasper Kitten, Chris and Jojo in excellent keep on keeping on critter conversation. Take it away!
Heidi: Hello, Friends! Welcome to our Furever Friday Post. With these great accomplishments and achievements, these milestones and mileposts along the way, what will our Core Community Critters consider next?
Jasper: Greetings, Everyone! A thought has occurred to me in response to the above opening existential question posed by our Hooman.
Jojo: Hello, Dear Gentle Critters. A thought has also occurred to me or please allow me to say, in the vernacular, ditto.
Chris: Dear Gentle Readers, thank you for being here with us. Openly and honestly, it almost seems like now is the time for me to take my next step and take my next nap. On. The. Couch. The end.
Jasper: Excellent conversation opener, Chris.
Jojo: Ditto, Chris.
Chris: Thank you, thank you very much. Honesty is the best policy given both the expenditure and conservation of my energy.
Jasper: But first, we have an incredible critter to share with you.
Chris: Fur sure. Critters, we introduce to you the largest of the gibbon family of lesser apes, the incredible Siamang.
Jojo: Would now be a good time to share the Latin Binomial name of the Siamang?
Jasper: Yes. Please. Proceed, Jojo.
Jojo: Symphalangus syndactylus.
Jasper: Well said, Jojo.
Jojo: Thank you very much.
Jasper: You’re welcome.
Chris: Furthermore, Siamangs are an endangered species. They live in the wild in upper forest canopies of the Sumatra and Malay peninsula from 500 to 2500 feet elevation. But their rainforest habitat is under extreme pressure due to palm oil and coffee and chocolate production. Plus, the much dreaded plight of the illegal pet trade.
Jojo: Therefore, we can do a lot to help them by purchasing sustainable products, especially the kind that come from the rainforest and are shade grown. And furthermore, help put an end to the illegal pet trade. Full stop.
Jasper: Critters, let’s share a photo of Siamangs for the edification and enjoyment of our Readers:
Jojo: Critters, notice the throat pouch in the photo. Siamangs are incredible unique and I do mean individual singers among the gibbons. They make a special howl which can be quite loud in order to establish their territory and bond with each other. And they go real big. Cuz. Their throat sac can swell as big as their heads.
Jasper: What about you, Jojo. Do you howl?
Jojo: Nope. I don’t howl. I rarely make a peep, actually, unless I’m dreaming.
Jasper: You’ve never even howled at the moon?
Chris: Question mark. Question mark.
Jojo: Thank you for the question, Jasper and Chris.
Jasper: Of course.
Chris: Of course.
Jojo: Over the course of my life, I have howled at the moon, but only in my dreams.
Jasper: Thank you for the clarification, Jojo.
Jojo: You’re welcome. Furthermore, in scientific terminology, the specialized and special throat pouch of the Siamangs is called the gular sac. And beyond that, please note for the purposes of clarification that the computer autocorrect is inaccurate and trying to change gular to gulag which I, fortunately, have been able to override. Full stop.
Chris: A job well done correcting the autocorrect, Jojo. But where do Siamangs sleep?
Jojo: Thank you for the question, Chris.
Chris: You’re welcome. I’m all ears.
Jojo: Specifically, Siamangs sleep in trees where they spend the majority of their time, generally. The end.
Jasper: Also, please note, they switch trees night by night.
Chris: I find this highly relatable. Similar, in fact, to how I switch between the Couch and the bed. The end. Furthermore, what do they eat?
Jasper: Siamangs are omnivores and eat a lot of fruit.
Chris: Eating a lot of anything works for me. Thank you for the clarification.
Jojo: Once again, Critters, we find much in common with other species.
Chris: Like the kinship we feel right here at home with each other.
Jasper: Correct. Chris.
Jojo: So Critters, remember, we luvluvluv you and we’ll see you next time. Please, stay safe and have fun out there. Thank you for your kind attention to our conversation on the incredible resilient Siamang.
Jasper: The.
Chris: End.

I luvluvluv all the learning I get from reading your Furever Friday posts, dear Critters! Such magical creatures - I have never seen (or heard) them before. Thank you for enlightening me!✨🤗
Congratulations on your milestones, Heidi and critters, and thanks for educating us about the Siamang. I try to buy ethically, and will keep this in mind. Also thanks for the haiku.
