Conversations with Critters🐾 Furever Friday August 22, 2025
Walk with the animals. Talk with the animals. And Jojo's inaugural trip to the Oregon Coast...
Today Critters, we are ready and set to go go go to the beach with the adventurous Jojo. And! This is his first trip to the iconic beautiful Oregon Coast since his momentus Senior adoption last October. Hooray! Hooray!
Right on the heels of discovering what is in his DNA, our intrepid Senior Adopted Chihuhua-Poodle-Pomeranian-Toy Rat Terrier-Pekingese-Dachshund-Chow Chow-Australian Shepherd-and 1% Pit Bull is about to hit the ground running!
So! Please join our Core Community Critters, Jasper Kitten, Chris and Jojo himself for an excellent coastal critter conversation! Take. It. Away.
Heidi: Greetings, Friends! Thank you for being here with us to explore Jojo’s first trip to the Oregon Coast! Previously, our Senior Adopted Furbaby has taken us up up up into the mountains and now! He’s taking us to Sea Level. So! Let’s catch some waves with our outdoor adventurer!
Jojo: Hello, Critters! First and foremost, I would like to take this conversation opener opportunity to thank each and every one of you for previously joining me at altitude in the mountains. And as a friendly reminder, I luvluvluv you.
Jasper: Excellent conversation opener, Jojo.
Jojo: Thank you, Jasper. Thank you very much.
Jasper: You’re welcome.
Chris: Ditto from over here on the Couch, Jojo. I dare say, thanking our Dear Gentle Critters and Dear Gentle Readers for a previous high altitude journey gives us the necessary backstory and foundation for your latest and greatest outdoor adventure. The end.
Jojo: Thank you, Chris. Thank you very much. That’s so nice of you to say so.
Chris: Of course. Of course.
Jojo: Would now be a good time to ask our Dear Gentle Critters and Dear Gentle Readers to take a deep deep breath and then exhale all the way out?
Jasper: Thank you for the question, Jojo. Yes, I believe so. It’s best to remain fully oxygenated in the conversation.
Chris: Correct. Full oxygenation also helps reduce fatigue and sleepiness, so I can remain alert for the duration of this discussion. The end.
Jojo: Excellent. So, we’re all set! I am now ready to move on to discussing my outdoor adventure at the beach. I must say that walking on the sand was very good for my overall locomotion and well being.
Jasper: What did the sand feel like to your toebeans?
Jojo: Thank you for the well thought out question, Jasper.
Jasper: Absolutely. I’m all ears.
Jojo: The sand shifted under my toebeans and was very good for my sense of balance. I was able to locomote in a strength training kind of way that was incredibly beneficial to counteract my age related arthritis and improve my flexibility. The end.
Chris: Critters, let’s share a photo of Jojo’s paw prints in the shifting sands of time for your edification and enjoyment.

Jojo: In addition to walking on the sand, I also made an incredible observation of a wild pair of fishing Critters.
Chris: Did I hear the word fish? Did I really hear you correctly, Jojo?
Jojo: Correct, Chris. I saw a pair of Brown Pelicans, also known in the scientific binomial nomenclature as Pelicanus occidentalis. And. They. Were. Fishing.
Chris: Where?
Jojo: In the ocean, Chris. They were fishing in the ocean. They are powerful divers.
Chris: I see. Thank you for the clarification, Jojo. Furthermore, we are talking about the Pacific Ocean. The end.
Jojo: Absolutely. Let’s share a photo of a Brown Pelican, again for the edification and enjoyment of our Dear Gentle Critters and Dear Gentle Readers:
Jasper: Jojo, based on your observations in the wild at the beach, would you please take a deep deep dive into the natural history of Brown Pelicans in Oregon? The end.
Jojo: Thank you for bringing this important issue to my attention, Jasper.
Jasper: Naturally.
Jojo: Brown Pelicans are well known on the Oregon Coast. In 2019, they were removed from the endangered species list and remain protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
Jasper: Critters, the Endangered Species Act works.
Jojo: Yes. Brown Pelicans are also an Oregon Conservation Strategy Species in the Nearshore Ecoregion. Specifically and I quote, “The Oregon Conservation Strategy is an overarching plan to conserve Oregon’s fish and wildlife, and their habitats.” Here’s my link, Critters: Oregon Conservation Strategy Species. Full stop. Furthermore, by protecting Brown Pelicans as a species, we improve the lives of the entire ecosystem. Please, observe their wide ranging migratory map:

Chris: Incredible. Jojo, is it true that Brown Pelicans have a three gallon throat pouch?
Jojo: Correct, Chris.
Chris: I like the sounds of that. The end.
Jasper: Impressive. And to think you observed Brown Pelicans diving into the ocean, Jojo. How wild is that?
Chris: Good point, Jasper.
Jojo: Thank you, Chris and Jasper. It. Was. Wild. Furthermore. I would like to add that while I left my own paw prints in the sand for a brief period of time, overall I tread lightly and left no trace. The End.
Jasper: Critters, thank you for being here with us for Jojo’s first and foremost trip to the beach. We’ll see you next time for our Detective Tuesday Post brought to you by yours truly, the J Kitten, Sleuth & Purveyor of Bright Shiny Objects Detective Agency.
Chris: Please, my Friends, stay tuned for Chapter 12 of The Case of the Jumping Gene!
Jojo: Until then, please stay safe and fun out there! Full stop.

I Luvluvluv this trip to the beach! And the pelican was an added surprise! Well done, Jojo!🐾✨
The photos are fantastic, Heidi! The water and sand look so refreshing and summery, and play up Jojo's furry fuzziness. So super cute. This was such a fun read; I love those critters. They make me laugh!
