Conversations with Critters
Walk with the animals. Talk with the animals. And in celebration of the Solstice...

Today Critters, we welcome in the light of the Summer Solstice, Friday, June 20, 2025, at 7:42 PM Pacific Time. And for our Critters in the Southern Hemisphere, we wish you all good tidings for the Winter Season.
Here at CwC, on the 45th Parallel North, we are ready to walk the walk and talk the talk on the longest and lightest day of the year.
Please, join our Core Community Critters Jasper Kitten, Chris and Jojo in excellent sunburst critter conversation. Take it away!
Heidi: Hello and welcome, Friends! For our summer kick off, we have an incredible conversation lined up, full of fun and sun and a carefully, very carefully crafted and curated reading list to while away the hours.
Jasper: Hello, Critters. We’re ready to bask in the sun.
Chris: Ditto. On. The. Couch.
Jojo: What about the part where we have rain in the forecast?
Jasper: That’s a good question, Jojo.
Chris: This will still be the longest day of the year.
Jojo: Even though it’s cloudy?
Chris: Yes, that is correct.
Jojo: Thank you for the clarification, Chris.
Chris: You’re welcome, Jojo.
Jojo: Would now be a good time to present our carefully, very carefully crafted and curated reading list to while away the hours?
Jasper: Well, with all sincerity and humility, Jojo, it seems a little early on in the conversation opener.
Chris: We haven’t really gotten warmed up yet with setting the stage for relaxing on the Couch and taking our next nap on the longest day of the year. The end.
Jojo: Thank you for presenting me with the proper order of things before we while away the hours reading books, Chris.
Chris: Of course. Of course.
Jasper: Furthermore, that is a full stop.
Jojo: Thank you, Jasper. Would now be a good time for me to tell our Dear Gentle Critters and our Dear Gentle Readers how much I luvluvluv them?
Jasper: Yes. Absolutely.
Jojo: That’s so nice of you, Jasper. I have a good feeling about it.
Chris: There’s a natural flow to the expression of your feelings, Jojo. I would, but however, recommend adding a certain phrasing to your comment above.
Jojo: Sure, Chris. What is the phrase? I’m all ears.
Chris: The phrase if as follows: The end.
Jojo: Wow just wow, Chris. That really has a ring to it. Critters, I luvluvluv you. The end. Furever.
Chris: Nice touch adding, Furever, Jojo.
Jojo: Thank you very much, Chris.
Jasper: Well said, Jojo. Cuz, Critters. We are enjoying the most luvluvluv with the most light today.
Chris: All the more reason to take our next nap. There is so much time involved with the longest day of the year.
Jojo: How do we keep up?
Jasper: Good question, Jojo. Critters, let’s share a photo of our highly recommended answer for the edification and enjoyment of our incredible Readers:

Jasper: And now, we would like to present our Summer Solstice Reading List For Our Dear Gentle Readers.
Jojo: Is this the part where we plug and self promote our Detective Series?
Chris: In fact, it is not, Jojo.
Jojo: Thank you for the clarification, Chris.
Chris: Of course. Furthermore and as a friendly reminder, we have provided the links to our J Kitten, Sleuth & Purveyor of Bright Shiny Objects Detective Agency Series at the end of this post. The end.
Jojo: In that case, my recommendation for Summer Solstice Reading is The Incredible Journey by Sheila Burnford. The end.
Jasper: A classic choice, Jojo. Critters, my recommendation for Summer Solstice Reading is The Secret of the Old Clock which is the very first Nancy Drew detective story. The end.
Chris: An intriguing choice, Jasper.
Jasper: Yes. Chris, what is your Summer Solstice Reading choice?
Chris: It’s really a toss up for me. I’m either all in on Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White or The Peterson Field Guide to the Mammals with a special emphasis on Plate 8, Cats. Furthermore, I like the drawing of the tracks due to the visuals on toebeans. The end. Furthermore and this is noteworthy, I am referring to the Third Edition from 1976 which has been in the possession of our one said Hooman since that time. Full stop.
Jasper: Critters, we wish you a Happy Solstice, North or South! Please, wherever in the Hemispheres you find yourselves, stay safe and have fun out there!
Chris: We’ll see you next Tuesday for the highly anticipated release of Chapter 3 of The Case of the Jumping Gene. Same Critter Time! Same Critter Channel!
Jojo: And remember, we luvluvluv you. Furever.

Hello Miss Heidi and Critters,
Our cat brother, Tommy, is snoozing just like Chris. I guess that is what cats do on the Summer Solstice.
Our William chased a skunk earlier this week, and he got "skunked". Dad poured tomato juice all over him, then washed him with Dawn dishwashing liquid. Mom made William sleep outside on the porch for a couple of nights. Will got three tomato juice baths before Mom let him back in the house. Will is happier now that he has rejoined the family.
It is summer here in East Texas, so we hounds are just hanging around the patio, staying near the fans.
Happy Summer Solstice! A special tail wag to JoJo!

"The end. Furever."
...is the sweetest thing I've heard all week.
