Hello Miss Heidi and Critters,

Our cat brother, Tommy, is snoozing just like Chris. I guess that is what cats do on the Summer Solstice.

Our William chased a skunk earlier this week, and he got "skunked". Dad poured tomato juice all over him, then washed him with Dawn dishwashing liquid. Mom made William sleep outside on the porch for a couple of nights. Will got three tomato juice baths before Mom let him back in the house. Will is happier now that he has rejoined the family.

It is summer here in East Texas, so we hounds are just hanging around the patio, staying near the fans.

Happy Summer Solstice! A special tail wag to JoJo!

Thank you Lois & the Hounds & Cats of Hound Hollow! How harrowing of an experience for poor William getting skunked! There's nothing else on Earth, not at the Solstice or any other given day, when getting skunked can go unnoticed. Going forward, if William continues to periodically, shall we say, stink then keep giving those baths. There's also a formula for baking soda and hydrogen peroxide that works well. Also, Nature's Miracle makes a "Skunk Off" product. You have all earned Couch Time. Jojo says you're invited.:)

Nature’s Miracle, Skunk Off. We will remember that. William was the first Hound of the Hollow to challenge a skunk. Our older sisters Lucy and Karley, who are on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge being Angel Dogs, both got skunked. Lucy charged at a skunk and tried to corner it by getting it in our house. Mom slammed the door on the skunk’s snout and it sprayed Lucy and the entire front entranceway. Karley got skunked - drenched by the skunk! Karley was put on three weeks leave of absence from her job as a therapy dog at Mom’s office. Her clients really missed her and she was miserable because she couldn’t work. Skunks are cute, but they sure don’t smell good.

We’re doing couch time now, for sure. Time for Dad to give us our bedtime snacks and then we’ll all curl up in our beds for the night.

Talk to you later, Miss Heidi and Critters. Hi to my special friend, JoJo.

Jojo has done some research and recommends getting a supply of Skunk Off cuz as time goes by there may be episodes when you'll still smell the musk from this latest bout as it can have recurrent off gasses. Jojo also would like to suggest the hydrogen peroxide/baking soda recipe. Let us know if you need help locating it. Skunks are slow moving critters and have developed a really effective way to counteract that to protect themselves from harm. Did you know that skunk musk is so pungent that a minute amount of it is used as the base in perfumes? It's really that awful. Jojo sends his luvluvluv most of all to Emily.:)

Thank you, JoJo. You are very wise. That must be why you are a Detective Dog.

Have a good weekend!

Favorite line of the day, all reading included, "There’s a natural flow to the expression of your feelings, Jojo." I laughed out loud, not at your wonderful critters, but because they're so lovable. The summer reading list is spot on! While reading the titles, I could see the covers of the books we had growing up, or checking them out of our little town's library. Reading in the summer is the best! Thanks, Heidi and Critters, for the solstice greetings, too! Sending greetings to all of you. Hope your solstice naps were the nappiest!

Thank you, Mary! It's so nice to hear that the love shines through. The Critters are the sweetest friends.:) The naps have gone quite well today, cool and breezy and rainy start to the summer. Chris also plans to go to bed early before the sun even sets at 9:01 pm. Wishing you a wonderful start to the summer and happy reading!

Thanks for the reminder that today is the Summer Solstice, Heidi! We had very nice weather from the late morning onwards here in Ottawa, Canada. I like that list of recommended Summer Solstice reading. A nice haiku for today and looking forward to chapter 3 of "The Case of the Jumping Gene." :)

Thank you, Neil! It's great to hear the weather is good in Canada. We are under cloudy thunderous skies and rain, but no complaints as we need it. The reading list is classic and a fun way to spend time. I looked at my Field Guide to Mammals again and it cost $5.95 in 1976!
