Conversations with Critters
Walk with the animals. Talk with the animals. And thoughts on habitat and home…
Today Critters, we consider and converse on the topic of roosting, whether in an oak woodland or undercover on the Couch at the Condo, whether a wild Turkey Vulture scanning and scavenging from the skies or an Indoor Only Cat, snug as a bug after the kibble hit the bowl.
Please, welcome welcome our Core Community Critters Jasper Kitten, Chris and our Senior Adopted Furever Jojo in excellent thinking about it critter conversation. Take. It. Away!
Heidi: Hello and welcome, Friends! We’re so happy to be here with you for our Furever Friday Post! As ever.
Jasper: Greetings, Dear Gentle Critters!
Chris: Greetings, Dear Gentle Readers! The end.
Jojo: Welcome welcome welcome. Full stop. P.S. I luvluvluv you. Furever and ever.
Jasper: Critters, recently our one said Hooman went on a springtime hike at Baskett Slough NWR and has Field Notes for us which we need to take under consideration and review. The end.
Jojo: Would now be a good time to share the news that one oak tree is an entire habitat?
Jasper: Thank you for the question, Jojo.
Jojo: You’re welcome, Jasper.
Chris: Jojo, thank you very much for this question and I do believe, in my humble opinion from under the covers on the Couch, that now is now.
Jasper: Correct, Chris. There is no time like the present.
Chris: Well said, Jasper.
Jasper: Thank you, Chris. Jojo. Please. Proceed.
Jojo: Thank you, Jasper and Chris. Now. Where was I?
Jasper: I believe you left off with the conversation opener about how one oak, known in the Latin as Quercus, is an entire habitat.
Jojo: Yes, thank you for the friendly reminder, Jasper.
Jasper: Of course, Jojo.
Jojo: Critters, Quercus, as appropriately noted and cited by Jasper, is Latin for oak. The end. Furthermore, one oak is an entire habitat which is incredible.
Chris: You mean, an entire habitat like the Condo? Generally, speaking?
Jojo: Yes. Exactly.
Jasper: I see. You mean, like the Couch? Specifically, speaking?
Jojo: Yes. Exactly. Ditto.
Jasper: Thank you for the clarification, Jojo.
Jojo: Of course, Jasper. In fact, let’s share a photo for the edification and enjoyment of our Dear Gentle Critters and Dear Gentle Readers of Turkey Vultures roosting in an oak woodland:
Jasper: Incredible.
Chris: Impressive.
Jojo: Turkey Vultures are scavengers which is highly appealing and relatable to me as a Canine.
Jasper: I see. Are you saying that you are currently and naturally, biologically and ancestrally a scavenger, Jojo? The end.
Jojo: Yes cuz when you and Chris drop kibble on the floor, I’m all over it.
Chris: Jojo, I understand that Turkey Vultures have big wing spans. What is your humble opinion of the matter?
Jojo: Gosh, Chris, thank you for the shift in the interrogative, but I am still on topic about being a scavenger.
Chris: Of course, Jojo. I’ll google the answer with the tap of a toebean.
Jojo: Thank you, Chris. Thus. And to continue. Being a scavenger is essential to cleaning the environment and I really like to make myself useful and helpful around the house. The end again.
Jasper: Thank you, Jojo.
Jojo: You’re welcome.
Chris: Here we go, Critters. The wing span of a Turkey Vulture, on average, is six feet. Furthermore. They are incredible and efficient flyers, barely needing to flap their wings as they ride thermals in the air. Plus. They are highly social with each other and flocks are called, kettles.
Jasper: Also. Incredible.
Jojo: In addition to feeling the kinship with being a scavenger, I very much like the social aspect. Full stop.
Chris: Critters, we have learned a great deal in our wide ranging conversation from the Couch to the Skies. I believe that a natural nap time is in order now. The end.
Jasper: Well said, Chris. Thank you very much, Friends, and we’ll see you next time.
Jojo: Thank you for being here with us and please remember to stay safe and have fun out there! We’ll see you for our Detective Tuesday Post! The. End.
