Conversations with Critters
Walk with the animals. Talk with the animals. And meditations on cycles of adjustment…
Today, Critters, we offer you a kaleidoscope of shifting yet beautiful forms on the home front here at the Condo. The past couple of months have brought inevitable changes and adjustments; first, from the Rainbow Bridge Crossing of our beloved pup and furever in our hearts, Panda, and then to the Adoption of our Shining Senior Star, we have found a calm in the inevitable storms, a safe harbor which is anchored in the luvluvluv of our shared sense of place, of family, of home and, most of all, with you, our dear gentle readers. Together.
Please, join us now as we explore the adjustments in our daily rhythm and routine. To help us cope with a new and renewed Furever Multi-Furbaby Situation we welcome Jasper Kitten, Chris and Star in excellent considerate critter conversation.
Heidi: Hello, Friends! We have received many questions in regards to how Jasper Kitten and Chris, the Cats of the Household, are adjusting and coping with all of the changes that have taken place with their dogs; from grief and loss to new luvluvluv and adoption. The range is deep deep, immense, and we are ready to dive in. Take it away, Jasper Kitten, Chris and Star!
Jasper: Hello, Critters! Thank you for all of your questions and concerns for us during this time of great transition with our dogs. Our shared reality, and we do mean shared reality, has come with certain critter senses of adjustment, change, acceptance, and interactions all of which are of epic proportions. What do you think about that, Chris?
Chris: What.
Jasper: I see. Thank you, Chris. I’m glad we agree.
Chris: Ditto, Jasper. Thank you to all of our readers and subscribers for asking how we are doing as Cats going through Changes. We are grateful for your thoughtfulness. The end.
Jasper: On the topic of Critter Changes, in general, and Canine Change in our household, specifically, what is your own inner natural history with this process, Chris?
Chris: Thank you for the question, Jasper. This Spring was a double whammy. First, we were left bereaved and bereft of Panda. Second, we were entirely dogless.
Jasper: Yes. It’s beyond words really, but we must press on.
Chris: Yes. Our beloved pup, Panda, made her Rainbow Bridge Crossing in April. I spent my entire life with her from the time of my Kitten Adoption. She was always there for me.
Jasper: Ditto. She was always there for me, too, since my Kitten Adoption. It’s hard on a cat to lose their dog.
Star: Chris and Jasper Kitten, I sympathize with your loss. I’ve been lost. It was hard.
Chris: Thank you, Star. It means so much to us that you understand. Most of all, it means so much to us that we have adopted you.
Jasper: You are helping to heal our hearts, Star. It’s so important to talk about our feelings of loss and how much we luvluvluv living with our dogs.
Star: The feeling is mutual. I luvluvluv my kitties. Thank you for waiting for me to get up this morning.
Chris: You’re welcome!
Jasper: Are you an evening star?
Star: Yes, yes I am.
Jasper: Star, this brings us to a most important topic.
Chris: Jasper, I see where you are heading with this and I’m all ears.
Star: Gosh, I’m all ears, too.
Jasper: Star, how long did it take for you to adjust to sharing the Couch and the Bed with us?
Star: From sunrise to sunset?
Jasper: Yes. From the morning star to the evening star.
Star: Thank you for the clarification.
Jasper: You’re welcome!
Star: My total cycle of adjustment was three full days.
Jasper: Let’s share a video from this timeframe for the edification and enjoyment of our readers.
Chris: The mere memory of the adjustment phase is making me very very sleepy.
Jasper: Critters, this is truly a quick turnaround for Star and for all of us quite openly and honestly.
Chris: The only house rule here at the Condo is that everyone has to get along with each other. The end.
Jasper: Star, you are a shining success. Although, Chris and I are quite flexible in pivoting to the box spring, we do appreciate how quickly you learned to coexist with us. Thank you.
Chris: Thank you very much.
Star: Gosh, you’re welcome. That’s so nice of you to say so. You’ve both made me feel right at home. Thank you for dropping kibble on the floor.
Chris: Critters, before we catch up on some sleep around here as the Earth spins on its axis, I would also like to note something for the record.
Star: Please, tell us everything, Chris.
Chris: Yes, I will do that. Critters, my morning alarm clock technique of banging on the blinds shortly before the Sun rises above the eastern horizon is not effective for Star.
Star: Gosh, Chris, I’m not aware of you doing this. I must have slept through it.
Chris: Yes, it’s incredible.
Star: Like I said, I’m not a morning person. I have the most energy in the evening hours.
Jasper: Will you be changing or, at least as they say in the vernacular, modifying your technique in terms of Star’s body clock, Chris?
Chris: I don’t believe so, there are already sufficient changes in our environment, Jasper. I will give it more time, Critters. And with that said, we thank all of you for your rapt attention and hope you’ll take a nap on the Couch soon. Full stop. The end.
Jasper: Well said, Chris. Thank you for being here with us, Critters. The end.
Star: Thank you very much. Thank you, Critters, for giving me the tincture of time in order to adjust. I am so deeply grateful for my Senior Adoption. Please, stay safe and keep shining and have fun out there! The. End.

Thank you for the loverly conversations and illuminating video.
Always look forward to the conversations, such a joy.
Heidi… I love reading your critter conversations. Always these emotions are overwhelming when loosing a beloved family member (pet). When time arrives to learn to love on a new addition to the family…that comes with its own memories/feelings to navigate. I sometimes think we lean from our human perspective. Our animal babies also have their own way of having to adjust. I'm positive while it's not always as easy it does come with joyful adventure.
