I like that drawing of the food web for the Great Blue Heron, Heidi. I am not familiar with the food web and nice to see it visually. Also a great method to help you remember and visualize it by drawing it yourself. Nice to Jojo doing well and love the retro 70s vest!

Thank you, Neil! The web is a visual way to understand the complexities of an ecosystem rather than a chain where energy runs in one direction only. It was fun to illustrate it by drawing. And Jojo luvluvluvs his vest.

Thank you, James! I saw my neighborhood pair of Great Blue Herons flying overhead this morning. They always inspire me. And a big thank you for bringing me good luck this week. I was able to id a Hairy Woodpecker this morning in the park! Bigger than a Downy and with a longer beak. It was a male with the red head.

Yes! I am almost finished with a quick post about the woodpeckers—I’ll sit on it until next week

Thank you, Mary! Wow just wow, that is such a huge compliment! I used my regular uniball pen and took a shot at it.:) I’d like to do more drawing. Do you have a recommendation for pens and paper? Thanks so much.

Hooray for taking a shot - I just love it (I know, I said that already). I love Staedtler pigment liners. I bought a set of 4 just to try the different tips, and now I buy them individually as needed. They last a long time and the tips and ink don't skip like other pens do. Michael's has them and they also have pretty good sales:

I also use little sketch books with nondescript paper, sometimes I use plain white card stock, I was also given a sketch book that I use from time to time. You go, Heidi!!!

Thank you, Mary! I’m going for it! Will be stocking up on the Staedtlers for sure. Thanks for the link. It’s exciting to see how much people are enjoying this food web drawing. I’ve always been into writing and photography, so this is a new creative discovery. Thank you for the encouragement.:)

Bless your newest addition Jojo! and oh how we love senior rescue, so thank you Heidi! And that is the coolest field note!! Great job! I hope you get out your sketchbook and compile them! We never know until we put our mind to it what we can do! I have said my entire life, "I can't draw or paint." I'm still hesitant, but my desire is there :) That's the most important thing I guess. Going to check out our city's various art courses next year for beginners. ox

Thank you so much, Deborah! We definitely have this drawing discovery in common. When I first saw the Food Web assignment, I figured that I'd do some kind of graphic design on the computer, which is also something I'm unfamiliar with. But when I went further into, I gave drawing a shot and voila! How cool is that!
