A beautiful post, Heidi and CwC. Chris and Jasper quite literally looking ahead! That is quite a find with that Red-tailed Hawk feather as well. Love that Haiku collection, too!

Since reading your Conversations I often look at my cats and imagine them having conversations like yours. The rewilding project they talk about this time sounds lovely! I wish we'd have more projects like that - everywhere. Too many golf courses where I live :(

Thank you, Emese-Reka! We luvluvluv hearing about your own cat conversations! Our neighborhood park, formerly known as a golf course, is 56+acres. It’s wetlands and had a history of flooding the golf course, so the city took it over and nature is taking its own course which is so enlivening. Thank you so much for being here with us at Critters.:) We enjoy your nature and travel writing.

Look forward to it Heidi. I am so enjoying this series. I do hope that once the critters have solved this mystery they go on to doing more great detective work. I am sure they will be in demand - I can see a huge mail bag in their future, with all sorts of cases, once they solve this and it hits the press!

Hi Jasper Kitten & Critters, This is Julie Rae Cat. Do stay safe with your sleuth job. It can be very dangerous out there and sometimes I worry about you. William, Emily and I are so happy to hear that our friend Star will continue to be present with you. I know Star will always watch over all of you.

We will be checking our mom's computer for your next update.

Awesome! Do they like to be in groups? Is that a normal “lifestyle”? And they originate in Chili? Maybe we can have a small family that’s on its way to Canada. So fun. You are welcome to write anything of interest to you here in the comments or a DM. We’re all ears. Thanks so much.

Yes, they actually live in large family groups in the wild and have evolved alongside kangaroo rats. So if there's kangaroo rat pups or degu pups, they will look after each other's offspring. Yes, they're originally from Chile in the Matorral region. (If you watch from timecode 22:27, there's a small bit about degus in their natural environment in Chile.
