Conversations with Critters
Walk with the animals. Talk with the animals. And an incredible Reader Submission from Rock and Hawk…
Today, Critters, from the Field Notes of our friend and highly esteemed Naturalist,
and his incredible writings at , we bring you an entire series of Haiku poems based on observations in the Field, starting right now!Thank you to the Wild Critters who have made this post of Haiku possible. Thank you very much. Our Core Community Critters are already well along their travels on the path unwinding. Please, join Jasper Kitten, Chris, Kermit and our Senior Shining Star in excellent poetic critter conversation.
Heidi: Hello and welcome, Friends! So many of you heeded our Clarion Call for Reader Submissions of your favorite Critter Antics. We are pleased and grateful to share the latest from
at ! In the esteemed estimation of our Critter Chorus, we are ready.Chris: Hello, Everyone. I am working remotely. From. The. Couch.
Jasper: Hello! We’re ready to rock with
!Kermit: Helloooo, Critters! Take a deep deep breath and take it away!
Star: Greetings to One and All. Please and thank you for being here with us for this series of Haiku poems, including one special stellar Haiku written especially for CwC.
Chris: To set the stage, we will be considering the incredible effects of observing birds and creating an oasis of habitat for them both urban and wild. The end. This also includes the back porch. The end.
Jasper: This is highly relatable, Chris. We, as Indoor Only Cats, feel a tremendous and incredible kinship with the observations which have sparked so much poetic creativity from the Field Notes at
. The end, too.Kermit: Critters, my friends and esteemed oxygenated colleagues, there is a Further Field Note of which I would like to take the opportunity to avail myself of on this incredible journey. And I do mean take, emphasis mine. All mine.
Star: Thank you, Kermit. We are all ears. Would you like all of us to take a deep deep breath at this time?
Kermit:: Absolutely, Star. Critters, please inhale and then exhale. All the way out. Observe the heist of the Squirrel in the opening photo above. I find this thievery, the premeditated ingenuity of it, the high level of executive functioning, highly relatable. Full stop. The end.
Chris: An incredible observation, Kermit, and gosh, my oxygen saturation just shot up to one hundred percent! I feel so awake! Thank you. Thank you very much.
Jasper: Ditto.
Kermit: Excellent. I now present the Full Haiku Series which has been submitted to CwC like a breath of fresh air. But first!
Star: Yes, Kermit?
Jasper: We’re all ears, Kermit.
Chris: Ditto, although I’m heading for the Couch as we speak.
Kermit: Critters, I simply must focus further on my kinship with the Squirrel. It is a matter of utmost urgency!
Chris: What.
Kermit Please, allow me, as I quote from our esteemed Rock and Hawk Naturalist, “…it’s the squirrels’ world and we just live in it.”
Star: Thank you, Kermit. This is truly profound.
Jasper: The quoted commentary is of existential proportions. Yeah. I feel good about it. Critters, although the Squirrel has added a competitive behavioral level for resources, let’s share photos of all of the Birds featured in the following Haiku for the edification and enjoyment of our readers.
Chris: I luvluvluv these Bird photos and Haiku. Take it away!
Chicka-dee-dee-dee
Special bird, so overlooked
But so much wonder
Cardinal. Common
But so arrestingly red
Except the females
Robins, they wake us
With that gorgeous, cheery song
Reliably known
The Tufted Titmouse
Black oil sunflower seed
brings them to the yard.
Chipping Sparrow trill
Or maybe a Pine Warbler?
Fun to learn the two.
Star: Incredible. Such understated and yet profound poetry and photography.
Kermit: Yes and let’s not forget the Squirrel. Furever and ever.
Chris: Of course of course and thank you for your candor, Kermit.
Kermit: You’re welcome!
Jasper: Critters, our highly esteemed Naturalist has given us a gift!
Kermit: Is it a 5 gallon drum of snacks?
Chris: Kermit, this would be sheer brilliance! I’m all ears!
Star: Is it a bright shiny object?
Jasper: Star, you are quite close to the truth! Because. The gift is about our commitment to lifelong learning!
Chris: This is truly, in my humble opinion, completely exhausting, Jasper.
Jasper: Chris and Critters! Thank you for your rapt attention as I present to you the Special Haiku written especially for us!
Chris: Jasper, you have convinced me. I am all ears.
Conversations with
Critters. Making learning less
Dry, with luvluvluv!
Jasper: Thank you
for this incredible gift of poetic compliments!Chris: We luvluvluv this so much. Thank you. Thank you very much. The end.
Kermit: Thank you, Critters, for your rapt attention. We will see you next time. So stay safe and stay oxygenated!
Star: And have fun out there! We luvluvluv you. Furever and ever.
