Conversations with Critters
Walk with the animals. Talk with the animals. And Jasper Kitten’s First of Its Kind Reader Survey for Conversations with Critters…
Today, Critters, we are utilizing a new tool available on Substack which is known in the vernacular as a survey. Specifically, this is Jasper Kitten’s First of Its Kind Reader Survey for Conversations with Critters. We will place the purple button for the Survey throughout this post for your convenience, so you can’t miss it. Topping out at 6 Questions, the survey is uniquely designed by Jasper Kitten as he seeks to take a deep deep data driven dive into the hearts and minds, the very soul, the very essence, of our Readers. We thank you in advance for your time, your responses, your consideration and your enduring interest in engaging with us here at Critters. Thank you.
And now we return to our regularly scheduled programming on the path unwinding. Please, join us now in excellent critter conversation.
Heidi: Welcome, Critters! Hello, Friends! We are so pleased to present Jasper Kitten’s First of Its Kind Reader Survey! We hope you’ll participate and next week we’ll be back with the Data Driven Results!
Chris: Is this a quiz?
Panda: Are we being tested?
Jasper: Oh no oh no! This is a Survey. It is completely open-ended, unbiased and a function of free will. The end. And furthermore, let’s change the subject!
Panda: But we’ve only started talking about the Survey.
Chris: Critters, I will take this opportunity to return to the couch, to my deep deep thinking and contemplation of my next nap, and my dreams both unique and universal of kibble in my bowl furever. The end.
Panda: That is so elaborate, Chris.
Chris: What.
Jasper: I must prepare to gather the data from the Survey. I will be in the Box Spring, crunching numbers as the data comes in for my analysis as well as my synthesis.
Panda: But I wrote a poem after my morning nature walk. Wouldn’t you both like to hear it read outloud?
Chris: If it’s a lullaby then I’m all ears.
Panda: It’s a Free Verse Poem.
Jasper: Gosh, that’s a major departure from our Haiku poems. I am intrigued by this shift in form and focus. Is it an epic?
Panda: Oh gosh. That would be too long, Jasper. It is eight lines.
Jasper: Does that include the title?
Panda: Nope. With the title included, it tops out at nine lines.
Jasper: What about the byline?
Panda: With my name fully credited, we are looking at ten lines. Tops. The end.
Jasper: O’kay, that is still within the parameters of my attention span. In fact, it is within the same parameters as the Questions of my Survey. That number is six! Please, proceed. I am all ears.
Panda: Thank you for your kind attention, Jasper. Thank you, Chris. Here is my poem:
Silhouette
In the low flat gray gradient
Of light
A Bewick’s Wren in
Silhouette
From the apex of a tree
On a single branch
Sings soprano
By Panda
Chris: Thank you for reading your poem outloud to us, Panda. I like the incredible gray imagery. It matches my coat pattern very well and it is lulling me to sleep as we speak. Well done.
Panda: Oh wow, Chris. That’s a huge complimentary compliment, especially knowing that my poem is lulling you to sleep. Thank you very much.
Jasper: I feel an almost visceral effect. Your poetry is that transformative, Panda. The end.
Panda: Critters, let’s share a photo of a Bewick’s Wren for the edification and enjoyment of our Readers.
Jasper: A Bewick’s Wren came to the Birdfeeder this winter! I have seen this Critter in the wild! With my own eyes! But why does the Latin Binomial Name, Thryomanes bewickii end with a double i? Who does that? It seems so superfluous!
Panda: Jasper, you have excellent attention to detail.
Jasper: Gosh, thank you, Panda. Thank you very much.
Panda: The reason why is because Latin does that sometimes.
Jasper: Well, that explanation makes sense. I see the logic.
Chris: Languages are logical like that, Jasper.
Jasper: Good point, Chris. I will take that to heart. Again, thank you Critters for your kind consideration in taking my thoughtfully designed Survey. Due to the nature of this being the very First of Its Kind, it is also somewhat experimental and we hope, we pray there will not be any glitches. Thank you in advance for your participation, for your readership, and for this adventure in living. The end.
Panda: Thank you for being with us here. We’ll see you next time. The. End.
Chris: Until then, stay safe and have fun out there! We luvluvluv you. The. End.
Jasper: The. End.

The Bewick Wren is a bird I had not heard about before. Great photo.
That Panda can really craft a poem!
